After-dinner entertainment, fresh from Taste of the Vine’s cheesemaking dairy.
Run in conjunction with Gimblett Cheese (Surrey cheesemakers and our sister company), the Interactive Cheese and Port Show is a hands-on, fascinating combination of curd and comedy.
Written and performed by Francis and Pam Gimblett (founders of Taste of the Vine and The Gimblett Cheese Company), the event combines tasting challenges, tales from their cheesemaking dairy, as well as entertaining morsels gathered over their 19 years of wine events.
The event begins with a fun introduction to cheese tasting; enabling guests to identify elements within Francis’ tasting notes and thus unravel the clues to the challenge, without recourse to prior knowledge.
The tasting comprises a selection of England’s finest cheeses, including Floyd from Gimblett Cheese, matched with ports. During the course, whilst guests taste, Francis and Pam circulate, taking information and questions from the audience for use in the after-dinner show.
The show, over coffee, involves the audience to a high degree, with each table competing in an effort to outwit other tables with cheese and wine questions of their own making; compèred, with stand-up material, by Francis.
The finale comprises a set piece, where guests try to stump Francis with cheese and wine questions, before he reveals the answers to the tasting challenge, and awards prizes.
Francis and Pam Gimblett spent three years in: cheese training, developing their recipes, and building the Gimblett Cheese dairy, before releasing Floyd, a soft, washed rind cheese, onto the market in spring 2016. For this event, the pair also introduces cheeses from some of their friends and contemporaries in the cheesemaking world, as well as the very best drinks from the region.
Cheese and wine can be supplied by your dinner venue, or Taste of the Vine.
