Cheesemaking challenge and artisan cheese and drink masterclass
What's it all about?
A fun cheesemaking challenge and artisan cheese and drink tasting, held at a venue of your choice.
1.5 hour format suitable for evening receptions and a 3 hour format suitable for activity afternoons.
Run in conjunction with Gimblett Cheese (Surrey cheesemakers and our sister company www.gimblettcheese.co.uk), the Cheesemaking Challenge and tasting masterclass combines competition, artisan cheese and drink tastings, and a generous slice of humour and improvisation from your hosts.
Presented by Francis and Pam Gimblett (founders of Taste of the Vine and Gimblett Cheese), the event draws on their experiences at Gimblett Cheese as well as 25 years hosting wine events.
Introduction: Your guests begin the process of preparing their milk for transformation into curd for cheese. Whilst the milk heats, guests are given a fun introduction to the process of cheesemaking and British cheesemaking culture.
Setting, cutting and tasting challenge: Guests complete stage two of the transformation from milk to cheese: adding rennet and cutting the curd.
Transformation: The curd is drained, weighed, and infused with herbs, spices and flavours, and presented for judging.
Artisan cheese and drink tastings:
Throughout the cheesemaking process guests are given fun tasting challenges (non-alcoholic drink options available), the answers for which are obtained through deduction rather than prior knowledge.
Finale: Prizes are awarded and guests go home with cheeses from the Gimblett Cheese dairy.
